We've been back in the studio for one week and we LOVE it! We're welcoming new and returning dancers into the studio. Classes are full and dancers are getting their groove back as we start preparing for the World Irish Dance Championship qualifier (AKA Oireachtas pronounced oh-ruck-tus)! But before we get into the nitty gritty of preparing for the Oireachtas, we have a different event to gear up for... the Edmonton Heritage Festival! Our favourite summer festival of the year which we have been taking part in for 22 years!
DID YOU KNOW? Merv Bell, our teacher and musician has been performing at this wonderful event since 1979 when he first played for his now wife, Patti Bell, who is also a teacher with Mattierin! Patti performed for the very first Heritage Days back in 1974!
We will be performing on SUNDAY, JULY, 31st down at Hawrelak Park at the Irish Pavilion (#57)! Mattierin Irish dancers and friends will entertain the crowds with lively performances starting at 10:30am. Live music and dance all day! What more could you want?
Well, food of course! The Irish stage is conveniently right next to the Irish Tent where you will find souvenirs, Irish Candy (YUM!) and the kitchen which will be full of volunteers cooking up wonderful dishes for you to try such as Irish Stew - beef chunks, carrots, celery, onions, potatoes and gravy with soda bread (7 tickets), Potato Pancakes - mashed potatoes coated in seasoned flour and fried served with sour cream (4 tickets), Scone - plain or raisin (4 tickets), Barm Brack - fruit bread made with tea (3 tickets), Soda Bread (3 tickets) Shamrock Cookie - sugar cookie (2 tickets) and Coffee or Tea (8oz) (1 ticket).
Be sure to check out the virtual map on the Heritage Fest website to find us! https://www.google.com/maps/d/u/0/viewer?mid=1M-1wVwo0gl03ydhI3-nMj-6cimY Or if you're more of a free spirit and like to go with the flow, just #LookfortheGreen and #SEEUSDANCE!
