It's summer in Edmonton which means the sun is shining, the river is flowing, Edmontontians are soaking up the long warm days (I mean, how often does one wear sunglasses at 9:00pm?) and the Mattierin muffins are, well, dancing! The city is buzzing with festivals and events this time of year and our dancers get wonderful opportunities to take part!
We spent this past weekend performing down in Fort Edmonton Park, the largest living history museum in Canada, at the Celtic Gathering. We've been lucky to perform at this wonderful get-together (Northern Canada's largest) for many years! The scene was delightful and relaxed but there was excitement happening somewhere throughout the grounds, whether it was the burly Scotsmen competing in a tug-o-war, the pipe bands battling it out in the fields or the dancers performing reels and jigs. You would have been hard-pressed to wander around the park without your head nodding or your toe tapping to the wonderful music.
Between our performances in the Blatchford Field Air Hangar, the dancers rode on the merry-go-round, explored the Fort, played life-size checkers and mini golf, and cooled down with a scoop of ice cream. What fun! We always look forward to the Celtic Gathering and we can't wait to be back next year!
