Mattierin Irish Dance offers high-level Competitive programs and adult recreational classes.


Dancers of the school in the competitive programs compete in both teams and solos at the World Championship level while doing many performances throughout the year. At Mattierin Irish dance, our dancers strive to and achieve success. We provide each dancer the skills needed to compete and perform and his/her highest level. 



Mattierin dancers have achieved incredible success winning numerous titles and awards at local, national, and international competitions such as:

  • Over 35 Western Canadian Oireachtas Solo Championships  

  • Over 25 Western Canadian Oireachtas Team Championship 

  • 5 North American National Champions with consistent placings in the top 5

  • Western Canada's FIRST female All Ireland Champion

  • Junior NAFC Robert Gabor Belt Champion 

  • As high as 2nd and 4th in the World Championships in solos, 5th place in teams and numerous team and solo World Medals 

  • Great Britain Champion 2018

  • Canada's youngest female to earn a World Medal 

  • Top 5 at the All Scotland Championships 

  • Countless Championship titles and placings throughout North America.

The Mattierin Performance Troupe is made up of a selection of Mattierin's dancers excecuting choreography with rhythm, incredible leg speed, arm movements, and fabulous formations, all while bringing to the floor a truly Irish experience. Mattierin is honoured to perform to live music provided by world-renowned Irish Dancing musician, Merv Bell


Mattierin has performed at a variety of functions and festivals throughout the years some of which include: Heritage Days, the Ireland Funds of Canada's Emerald Ball, the Queen's Royal Visit to Edmonton, Voices for Hospice at the Winspear, the Canadian Prostate Cancer, St. Patrick's Day Fundraiser, Volya Ukrainian Dance Ensemble's 6th Annual Spring Awakening Gala, the Premier's Dinner, and the PC Party's National Convention. In addition, Mattierin has made numerous St.Patrick's Day appearances throughout the city, and performed on local and national TV. ​

Mattierin is proud to entertain at hospitals, senior's homes, schools, weddings, and various charity functions. Dancers have also been privileged to dance along side The ChieftainsEileen Ivers, The Wajjo African Drummers, the Alberta Caledonia Pipe Band, the Big Rock Pipe Band, Terry McDade and the McDades, Canada's Ukrainian Shumka Dancers, and many more.



Skills gained in Irish dance go beyond competitive success. Mattierin instills discipline, dedication, work ethic, confidence, teamwork, commitment, and a high level of fitness while encouraging life-long friendships and a love of Irish dance. 

Classes offered include:


This is a 30 min class held once/week for 3-4 year olds. As this is usually these young dancers first expereince in a dance studio, they learn how to behave and respect the studio and teacher. Dancers begin to learn the basics of Irish dance such as turn out, timing and coordination through fun exercises. 


This class is for competitive dancers in the Novice/Prizewinner levels. Dancers learn the Single Jig and Slip Jig as well as hard shoe while continuing to master basics through a variety of drills, exercises and barre work. Dancers at this level also take part in fitness and strengthening workshops throughout the year. 


This class is for adults 18yrs+ who are interested in having fun while staying fit. No experience is required. 6 week sessions available throughout the year.

This class is for children aged 5 and up starting Irish Dance for the first time and for dancers competing up to the Advanced Beginner level. Dancers will begin to learn proper turnout and technique through the integration of strengthening exercises, barre work and stretching as well as learning their Reel and Light Jig. 


This class is for competitive dancers in Preliminary and Open Championships and is the most advanced level of Irish Dance. Having mastered the basics of Irish Dance, dancers push themselves to new levels and train to compete internationally. Advanced barre work and strengthening is incorporated to provide the dancers with the skills, strength and technique needed at this level. Dancers in this class take part in strengthening and stretching workshops throughout the year.
