The Mattierin (pronounced Ma-tair-on) School of Irish Dancing has been established in Edmonton since 1993 and is under the direction of Merv and Patti Bell. Dancers from the school qualify and compete in local, national, and international Irish Dancing Competitions, including the North American and World Irish Dancing Championships.

The Mattierin School performs at a variety functions and festivals throughout the years including Heritage Days, Ireland Fund of Canada's Emerald Ball, The Big Valley Jamboree, the Celtic Hall, numerous St. Patrick’s Day appearances throughout the city, Local and National TV as well as entertaining at hospitals, senior’s homes, schools, and charity functions.
Guest performances that the Mattierin School has been honoured to perform with include The Chieftains at the Winspear, the World Country Dance Championships held in Edmonton, and annual concerts held at the Winspear and Citadel by the Wajjo African drummer’s, the Alberta Caledonia Pipe Band and the Big Rock Pipe Band’s Traditions concert. We performed in 2002 at the Premier’s Dinner at the Shaw conference as well as for the PC Party’s National Convention, plus many many more….
