We would like to introduce you to the dancing teachers of the Mattierin School of Irish Dancing. Merv Bell
Merv danced for 17 years with the Butler Academy
in Toronto. He danced in several North American Championships and qualified
to dance in the World Irish Dancing Championships in Ireland. His personal
highlight was being a member of the Senior Figure Choreography team,
which won the North American Championship in New York. He moved to Alberta
in 1979. In 1993, he earned his T.C.R.G. (Teaching Certification) from
the Irish Dancing Commission, Dublin, Ireland, and is a member of the
North American Irish Dancing Teachers Association and the Western Canada
Irish Dancing Teachers Association. He formed the Mattierin School of
Irish Dancing in 1993. For the past 25 years, Merv been playing accordion
and piano at Irish Dancing Competitions across North America, including
Regional and National championships and at the World Irish Dancing Championships
in Ireland. |

Patti “B” Bell (nee Macdonald) Patti “B” danced in Edmonton for 12 years with the Theresa Riess School of Irish Dancing and for the Butler Academy of Toronto. She won numerous championships, including the Western Canadian Championships, and danced in three consecutive World Championships in Ireland. She also won the Alberta Junior Achievement Award for Irish Dancing. She also performed with the Irish Rovers and Carlton Showband in concert and on television. Patti was chosen as the only Irish dancer to perform with the Alberta cultural group, which toured Korea. Patti was also an accomplished figure skater for 15 years with the Royal Glenora Club in Edmonton. Her skating achievements include earning Gold Status from the Canadian Figure Skating Association in 4 disciplines - dance, free skate, figure and free dance. Patti began teaching with the Mattierin School of Irish Dancing in 1995. |
